Dreaming in Color is a big bold bed sized beauty of a quilt measuring 79” x 89” made from luscious Bali batiks and rich marble fabrics.

I actually dreamt this quilt one hot July night last summer after spending the day staring at the wall of batik fabrics. The next morning I went in to my shop and quickly cut quarter yards from many of the medium and dark bolts. But as I started piecing the blocks, I found that many of the patterns in the batiks competed, creating what I call fabric “noise.” So to quiet things down a bit, I started adding in some of the rich saturated marbles I had been longing to use. The result is a wonderful sort of luminosity—the perfect mix of light and texture that lends depth and perspective to what could have been a colorful but flat looking quilt top.

This quilt top is definitely a color play and perfect for any quilter looking to take their color work to the next level. We kept the block piecing simple so you could devote your time and energy to working with color placement and design wall work.
